Rogerstone 5 Rhymney 28
The Brewers began this end-of-term midweek match at Rogerstone in a blur of attacking and tries, three in the first 15 minutes and a sixty pointer apparently looming. It didn't turn out that way, though, for the hosts, with some burly carriers both up front and behind, began to win some ball and Rhymney's efforts were all too often individual or isolated - plenty of turnovers conceded - or errors occurred as players tried too hard to burst through. Still, the result was never in doubt, and the Brewers got over the line six times in the second half but were only once rewarded with a score! Sold prop tryer Rhys Watkins drove over, then skipper and No 8 Chris Richards, before ful back Kyron oss raced away after a turnover to sprint round undr the sticks, Fly half Liam Davies converted all tree and with permit wing Jake Howard looking extremely dangerous, visiting fans sensed a try fest. Frustration, for players and fans, followed as good ball dried up, a touch of white line fever set in, and Rogerstone regrouped and drove on to stop the rot. As the sun went down so did the fun level, and the hosts managed a try of their own after the break. Scrappy play was the order of the day for a while and several subs came on for both sides. On numerous occasions it looked as if the Brewers would score or had scored, but the ref ruled otherwise, before scrum half Lloyd White scampered over untouched and undoubtedly legally for the bonus point try. Davies converted, dusk and Rogerstone's hopes fell, and the whistle left the Brewers with a similar trip to St Julian's in Newport on Saturday to wind up a promising campaign from a young side ready to work and learn.
