MOSS GATHERS HAT-TRICK AGAINST BRYN...

Rhymney 34 Brynithel 12

Rhymney's home six-try bonus point win over bottom spot strugglers Brynithel was the required result and featured some marvellous combined movements and impressive individual showings, with a hat trick for wing Kyron Moss. However there was also too much second half scrappiness and silly indiscipline, just when a 50 pointer looked on the cards against brave opposition with uncontested scrums throughout, after the Brewers had had to loan Bryn wing Gareth Lewis (who did well), to complete their XV. The scrum situation meant that the visitors got their share of possession and were far from out of it, but as Rhymney settled there was an early try for fly-half and skipper for the day Liam Davies, who varied the game well but had misplaced his normally deadly kicking boots. Then the first of a string of excellent passing moves involving both forwards and backs saw Callum Ryan free for a lovely score, before similar action down the left brought 'Snobby' Moss the first of his trio. Really good passing from all the backs - not always a given! - with a host of offloads, including those from the intelligent and thrustful flanker Connor Gregory and other pack colleagues, delighted the fans, and wing partner Jack Donegan's excellent run sparked the move from which Moss was over again, Davies converting for 22-0 and a first half bonus point. Rhymney were unlucky to lose hardworking lock Daley Morris with a neck knock, but Tyler Evans, hooker, and full back Ieuan Breen were prominent in much of the good loose work, and touchline opinion was that there were 50 points here as long as heads were kept, tongues held and white line fever avoided. The third was: the others, less-so. Backchat immediately after a stern warning from the ref brought not only an inevitable yellow but also try for Bryn from the resultant penalty, and others were lucky not to suffer the same fate. Centre Joey Buckley went stongly throughout with partner Scott Davidson, and Joey grabbed the fifth try after good linking down the right. Subs Callum Merrick, Keaton Pardoe and Joe Kahl all got on, but a slip-up in trying to counter attack led to another Brynithel score, and a dismissal for the style of tackle attempted, it seemed. There was still time, though, for Moss to chase a kick ahead, kick on, gather, and swerve and speed his inimitable way to the posts for his thirrd of the day, Davies converting to crown the afternoon.
