MUDDY MARVELLOUS! BREWERS BATTER BRYN.....

RHYMNEY 47 BRYNITHEL 7

With a scintillating, mud-defying first half display in particular, the returning Jamie Rowlands' side swept aside visitors Brynithel with a seven try, six conversion bonus point triumph, and a double over their brave oppoments. Everything stuck or went right in the first 40, wise tactics, good hands and clinical finishing seeing a 33-0 interval lead established. The younsters coming through from the youth side were especially lively, with versatile Dylan Williams showing the way in defence and attack and, at the other end of the age range, backrower Chrissie Richards always looking for work. No.9 Lloyd White was also prominent before a late bump, and he and partner Liam Davies kicked wisely to turn Bryn on a sticky surface. Centre Joey Buckley's pace stood out alonside Rowlands' strength, and Ieuan Breen had a good day on a wing. So did fellow wide man Kyron Moss, but he also got very cold! Moss got the first try, fine soccer and rugby skills from a White grubber, then Buckley showed anticipation and gas for a swift counter to the posts. Moss was robbed of a second as he was tripped just short after similar skills, a penalty try and yellow card resulting, then great hands by Buckley and Breen and a neat shimmy put Breen over. When Bryn fumbled their own scrum ball flanker Callum Merrick pounced for the fifth, which brought half time - with Davies' conversion hitting the post to rob him of 100%. The intensity fell away in the second half with the game won and the mud thickening, and in fairness to Brynithel they battled to the end. Rhymney's young guns - Williams, White, Merrick, Corey and Tyler Evans, Connor Thomas and Keaton Pardoe were all in the squad - showed real promise and drive, though, and Carl Samuel (wasn't Crumlin supposed to be his last game?!) also got late action. Joey Buckley rounded off useful home hands with a blazing burst for the Brewers' sixth, Davies improving that as well, and after Bryn had forced a forward over for their own converted try, 'Chopper' Davies burst through for a solo score and again added the extras. There was time for a brief flare-up, and the referee decided he had seen enough in the conditions and called it a day at 47-7. Five points in the bag, then, before next Saturday's scheduled trip to strugglers Beaufort.
